The project involves refurbishment and energy saving interventions on an existing house realized in the 1950's in elegant residential area of the historical center of Montebelluna (Treviso). The existing house is two-story with a small basement, the intervention provides little enlargements using the space of the existing balconies to square the volume and the addition of a new porch/terrace on south side. Furthermore, a significant enlargement of the basement floor provides a double garage outside the footprint of the house. The top of the underground garage is treated as a garden in continuity with the porch.

The residence in its final layout has the main entrance from west side through the main living/dining space facing the porch on south; on north side of the ground floor there are the kitchen and a studio and on east a powder room. On first floor there are three bedrooms, two bathrooms and another studio. For the new composition of the facades the finishing materials and details have been the key elements. The ground floor is clad with travertine marble tiles which create the base of the volume, this marble has been chosen to recall the Italian rationalist buildings typical of the 1950's. The existing double windows in aluminum/wood and rolling shutters are replaced with white oak wood double glazing and hinged shutters integrated on the sides of the windows. The new roof soffit and the ceiling of the porch are clad in larch wood planks to give a comfortable sensation, the balusters and all metal elements are in Corten steel. Particular care has been put in energy saving: a new external insulation layer is provided on all the walls, the roof is redone, PV panels are provided on the roof and some innovative solution for heating/cooling are deployed: radiant ceiling, heat pump and integrated air handling.
