PRIMARY SCHOOL – PONT CANAVESE (Turin)

Client:
Municipality of Pont Canavese

Project:
Architetto Nicola Isetta
Architetto Paola Rebellato

Dimensions:
gross floor area 1,400 m²

Schedule:
2015 competition

In 2015 the municipality of Pont Canavese (Turin) announced a competition for a new primary school to be placed in the playpark next to the existing middle school, in order to create an integrated school hub. Our design proposal is a quality but minimal intervention to spur to the refurbishment and enhancement of the existing spaces. For this reason, we propose a simple and compact volume to house the primary school, in order to maintain most part of the existing playpark and basket/volley playground. The new school is placed on the south side of the plot - parallel to Via Roma - in order to create a strip of common spaces between the new volume and the existing middle school and gym-hall.

This strip includes the basket playground and the remaining playpark, which becomes part of the school facilities. The main pedestrian access remains on the south side, where via Roma's bus stop is. From here you enter in a lower space and you reach the level of the primary school through a stair or a ramp.
