The project concerns the demolition of the existing school and the reconstruction of an innovative and sustainable building with wood structure, high energy performance and flexible spaces.
The new school is built on two above-ground floors around the central double-height atrium that serves as an agora-auditorium and benefits of the lighting from a large zenithal skylight. On the first floor, the walkway around the central atrium gives access to the 10 classrooms for regular activities and serves as a space for break activities. On the ground floor are special classrooms, library, and refectory. An important element of the project is the relationship with nature and the garden as an integral part of the students’ educational journey. All classrooms on the first floor have direct access to a terrace through glass windows; ground-floor spaces also have a direct connection to the garden.
The building is designed for maximum sustainability and energy saving through a well-insulated envelope and the use of recycled and recyclable materials. The hydronic air conditioning system consists of a heat pump combined with a radiant ceiling system and works using the electricity generated by the rooftop photovoltaic system. The HVAC system and large glass surfaces ensure air quality and natural lighting.
